UNIVERSAL PRE-KINDERGARTEN FAQS
UPK is a federally and state-funded program that introduces young learners to the school environment and focuses on intellectually, socially, and emotionally preparing children for kindergarten.
Q: What forms are needed to register?
Families who are interested in enrolling their child in Argyle Central School's UPK program for the 2024-25 school year are required to submit the following forms. Click HERE to download.

-Chromebook Sign-Off and Pledge
Please provide copy of:

-Custody/Guardianship Documents

The following items may be sent to school upon completion.

If you have more than one eligible child (i.e. twin, etc.) you will need to complete a packet for each child.
Q: When are all the forms due?
Completed registration packets are due to the district by Tuesday, April 30. Incomplete packets will result in your child not being registered.

Q: Will everyone who registers get a spot in the class?
There are 20 spots available. If more than 20 register, then we will hold a lottery.
Q: Where, when, and what time will the lottery be held?
If a lottery is needed it will take place on May 1, 2024 in the Argyle cafeteria. All families are welcome to attend.
Q: How does the lottery work?
The lottery will select attendees at random. New York State UPK regulations prohibit a district from prioritizing eligible students for any reason, including economic background. Each child will be entered into the lottery as an individual student and will be selected at random.
Q: Will there be a waitlist?
If your child's name is not drawn, you will be notified of where your child is seated on the waitlist. You will be notified if an opening becomes available during the 2024-25 school year.
Q: We have twins. What will happen if one twin is pulled and the other is not?
If one twin is pulled the other will automatically get the spot after that. For example, if one twin is pulled at #8 the other will get spot #9. However, if one twin gets the last spot, then the other will be placed on the wait list.
Q: What will the UPK hours be?
Our full-day program will consist of a 5-hour day (8:15 am-1:15 pm) and run for the entire 180-day school year.
Q. Will there be transportation for UPK?
No, parents will be responsible for transporting their child to and from school.
Q: Will they have "specials" taught by other special area teachers?
They will not have traditional specials but will be exposed to PE, Art, Music, Library, and STEM in various ways. If a schedule permits, students will have guest teachers to assist the classroom teachers in these areas.
Q: What would the day-to-day curriculum look like? Will they eat in the cafeteria?
You will find this information in the welcome packet.
Q: Will the screening for placement still be done like it used to be, i.e., to develop recommendations for speech, etc.?
Yes, this will be done in May. A follow-up letter/email will be sent to you.
Q: How will kids be evaluated in school? Will there be progress reports, report cards, and parent-teacher conferences?
Progress reports and a parent conference will be held in the fall. Students' progress will be monitored throughout the year, and reports will come home to you.
