Fall 2021 School Opening Update From Mr. Healey_July 28, 2021

As you may have heard, yesterday the Center for Disease Control (CDC)  issued an updated guidance that included recommendations for the daily operation of K-12 schools.   As part of this guidance, the CDC is recommending that masks should be worn by all individuals at all times within the school building, regardless of the individual's vaccination status.

It is important to note that this is only a recommendation from the CDC and that as of today, July 28th, New York State has not provided any guidance for schools.

However, the state has indicated that they are reviewing the CDC recommendations and that guidance is forthcoming.  I’m really hoping that the state provides this guidance soon, so we as a district and you, as families, can properly prepare for the start of school in September.

While we await NYS guidance, local county department of health officials, BOCES officials,  and school superintendents have been meeting to develop a collective vision on what the opening of school will  look like this  fall.  Included in this vision are our recommendation to reduce social distancing requirements in our classrooms from 6 feet to 3 feet and to maintain physical distancing to the greatest extent possible on our buses - both of these recommendations will significantly help us return to a full in-person instruction for all students this fall.

I know there are a number of questions surrounding transportation, meals, athletics, and most every other aspect of the daily school operation.  We continue to do our best, in the absence of state guidance, to develop plans  - while also continuing to push the state for any guidance that will allow us to finalize our plans.

Regardless of the current lack of NYS guidance, we know how important it is for all of our students to be here and in-person this fall - we are 100% committed to safely opening school for all Pre K -12 students for full, in-person instruction in September.

I will make sure to update you as soon as we receive any information from NYS.

Thank you for your patience and support. I hope you enjoy the rest of the summer.

Sincerely,

Michael Healey
